Start your day with a sunrise walk on the beach, surf fish from the pier or by charter boat, peddle your bike along our miles of oceanside bike paths, or experience the thrill of parasailing or ocean kayaking. Or, if kicking back is more your style, it's just a short walk to the private beach, or steps to our back-yard pool. The pool deck, with roomy outdoor family-sized shower and bathroom/changing room, offers convenience for families with young children, as does the charcoal BBQ grill for dads hosting the evening cook-out.

This is truly low-key family enjoyment at its finest -- no crowds to deal with, and no street traffic. Even during our peak summer season, it's rare to see more than a dozen families on our 13th Avenue beach. The days are carefree spent shell hunting, sandcastle building, people watching, and enjoying the sunrise and sunsets. While there, you won't want to miss one of the ocean's afternoon highlights -- when groups of dolphin make their late afternoon swim northward along the beach just yards from the shoreline. Don't be surprised by the abundant land-based wildlife either. Dozens of bird species live in our native backyard vegetation, as do a family of friendly red foxes that can be spotted at least once during your stay. The kids always seem to spot a colorful salamander scurrying in the underbrush when looking for a stray baseball or Frisbee.

After you're rested and ready for some excitement, head north about one mile to nearby Duck Village for some boutique shopping and waterside dining, or south to Kitty Hawk or Old Nags Head for local attractions. The restaurants, with their varied menus, offer a great way to sample everything from locally caught seafood, to pizza with more than two dozens creative toppings. Historical sightseeing is also a great day trip -- the Outer Banks offers over 100 miles of shoreline to explore from Hatteras Lighthouse to the Wright Brother's Memorial. The kids won't let you forget to save time for a round or two of miniature golf, and a dish of homemade ice cream along the way!
